What is DLNA parental control?

Parental control is the ability to limit specific content from being shown to all devices. This includes movies, music and photos. You can limit individual files or whole folders as required. KooRaRoo Media uses MPAA-based ratings, allowing the content to be classified as G, PG, PG-13, R and NC-17.

How are parental controls used with KooRaRoo Media?

It couldn't be simpler. There are two steps that you need to take to enable parental controls. The first is to configure the device that you want to limit. To do this, go to the Devices pane, select a device and click Edit. In the Device Properties window that comes up, select the maximum parental rating that will be sent to the device (ratings are inclusive) and click OK to apply. After that you can adjust parental ratings for individual files or folders. To do this either right-click on the file and select the appropriate MPAA rating from the popup menu, or edit the file or playlist properties and adjust the rating there. That's all there is to it - everything else is automatic. Files or folders set to not be streamed to that device will simply not appear on it.

Why is parental control so important?

Parental restrictions are a simple and effective way to limit certain content from being accessed by devices that your children use. For example, if your child has an iPad that they use in their room, you can limit the movies, music and photos that will be streamed to it. Parental controls can also be useful if you have a large playlist with a variety of cartoons, some of which may not be suited to younger kids. Rather than having to manually sift through them, just mark each accordingly and the job is done! When KooRaRoo Media shows the playlist on a device that your child has access to, they'll only see what's rated for them out of the large list. Older children on other devices will see everything, so they won't miss out on anything they might want to watch.

How can KooRaRoo Media help me with parental controls?

KooRaRoo Media makes it easy. For instance you can choose to segregate content by using the built-in MPAA-based rating system that starts from G and goes up to NC-17. With five different levels of parental control, you will be able to separate the content quickly and easily. While you can choose to set parental ratings manually, KooRaRoo Media will also attempt to read existing parental ratings from a file's metadata, as some movies and songs embed this information.

Should I use KooRaRoo Media's parental controls?

In short: absolutely! The bottom line is that it is a good idea to use KooRaRoo Media's parental controls. Otherwise anyone in your family or on your network can access the whole of your whole media library, and watch or listen to material not necessarily intended for them. Using parental controls is quick to setup, easy to use and doesn't slow down the dlna server, so there is no reason not to use them.
